Kimberly has been working in the education field since she was 15 years old. Starting her career coaching preschool sports, she has spent time in a range of classrooms, teaching ages three through seventy-three. Following her Bachelor of Arts (English) and Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria, Kimberly began to explore her passion for curriculum and methodology. She built bridge programs focused on pacing, differentiation, remediation, and enrichment, especially concerning foundational English skills. After teaching high-school physical education and English for a few years, she worked in editing and publishing while raising her young children; she also wrote curriculum, training with masters in the field.

She spent four years working for an educational advisory company, consulting in schools in Canada and the United States. The key focus was employing research-based explicit direct instruction and developing a culture of integrity and inclusion for students and staff.

For the last decade, she has been working at Shawnigan Lake School. She taught English and ELL classes, and after earning her TESL Canada Master’s Diploma, Kimberly was the Head of Prep School Programming at SLS, where she helped build the identity of a Prep School, promoting individualized academic language acquisition and fostering connection and courage in a boarding program. In addition to mastery in grammar, she has studied inquiry-based learning, student agency, and individualized relationships to learning. She also supported the Admissions team, and she coached running, basketball, and rugby.

She believes in connection, curiosity, clarity, and collaboration. Kimberly spends time with her husband and three incredible sons, exploring their obsessions with sports and the outdoors. She also loves reading, writing, singing (off-key), and snuggling her rosy-red golden retriever.

Our Community

School culture is important to us. More than simple developing scholars and students, we’re developing the next generation of leaders. We aspire to create a community that is accepting, compassionate and helps bring out the best in the students entrusted to our care.

We invite students from all around the world to join our learning community, and so are happy to host real or virtual tour to any prospective family wanting to learn more.
