Lest We Forget!

On November 10, we held our annual Remembrance Day/ Armistice Day ceremony.
Our Grade 10 students led the ceremony-displaying outstanding leadership. The assembly began with our Grade 10 students reciting famous war-time poems. Afterward, we were honored to have a special guest speaker, retired Master Corporal Michael Trauner who received the Medal of Military Valour and won double gold medal in the Invictus Games, Master Corporal Mike Trauner (aka MegaTraun) delivered a phenomenal assembly where he engaged all of our students and staff with stories about his service to Canada in the military where he lost his legs and had been pronounced dead on two occasions. The way in which Mike spoke about how he persevered and found the strength through his family to fight the depression he was experiencing was truly inspirational. Although he has had to deal with a great deal of adversity, Mike and his story are incredibly uplifting and serve as a good lesson to all of us that with the right attitude we can achieve beyond our wildest dreams. Mike is extremely pleased and honoured to have represented Canada in the battlefields of Afghanistan and Bosnia to wearing the maple leaf on the water where he will represent us in the Paralympics this summer.

At the end of the assembly, we watched the beautiful Remembrance Day video made by our Grade 4/5 students with Mr. Josh’s support and his fantastic editing skills.

Our younger cohort of Grade 4/5 and Grade 6 students attended the assembly in the Library and our senior classes watched virtually on Teams from their classrooms. A note of gratitude to all of our students with a special mention to our younger students for being an impeccably well-behaved audience.
