Residential Life

Activities for Residential Boarding Students at St. John’s Academy

The program of activities for residential students is an opportunity for the students to be involved in group and individual activities which they will enjoy and which will develop their social, emotional and life skills.

Community and Creative Activities

There are many opportunities to be involved in the school and local communities around Shawnigan Lake. For example:

  • House events
  • Theatre and music performances
  • School clubs including:
    • Debating
    • Model United Nations
    • Art and dance clubs

Students may also involve themselves in activities in the local community either by volunteering or through use of the various facilities that the community has to offer.

Active Pursuits

Various school sports and the chance to play on school teams are offered at the school, including:

  • Soccer
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Cross-country
  • Volleyball

Our lakefront location is ideal for our students to take part in:

  • Sailing
  • Paddleboarding
  • Rowing

Tennis, golf, and rock climbing can be enjoyed at local facilities.

Service

Service to others and to the community is very much part of the St. John’s Academy’s philosophy. It is very much encouraged to spend time volunteering at local institutions such as retirement homes or animal shelters, or to involve yourself in environmental activities and peer tutoring.

St. John’s Academy also makes full use of the many attractions on Vancouver Island with ski and snowboarding trips to Mt. Washington in the winter and visits to Pacific Rim National Park/Tofino for surfing and the City of Victoria for theatre and concert performances.
