St. John’s Academy Shawnigan Lake cares about our students and have put together a team of professionals who are committed to caring for the students as people above all else. This team works alongside our academics and other departments to ensure students have the best chance at success.
Serena Myrholm
School Guidance Counsellor
Serena works with all our students, inspiring individualized career and post-secondary goals, to ensure they have the resources they need to thrive at and beyond school. She provides post-secondary counselling for our senior students and helps coordinate support for the social-emotional wellbeing of our community.
Heather Colaco, RN
School Nurse
Heather is helping to build health protocols that will serve to streamline processes, allowing for easier, more efficient access to medical care for all SJASL students. Students already feel comfortable going to Nurse Heather, which speaks to both her expertise and ability to build community connections.
Leah Churchill
Student Services Assistant and School Registrar
Leah serves as Student Services Assistant and School Registrar. She has worked tirelessly to learn, organize, and update all of the various data reporting programs used at the school, such as Managebac, MyEd, and OpenApply. She is also responsible for reporting to the BC Ministry and arranging bus transportation. Many of our students stop to visit Leah; they know they will be met with a warm smile.
Travis Visscher
Student Life Coordinator
Operating within the academic day, Travis is a leader within the scope of academic care, responsible for the health and well-being of students. The Student Life Coordinator facilitates, contributes to, promotes, and attends a range of inclusive events, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating student life programming. The focus of the Student Life coordinator is a safe, healthy school that fosters a sense of engagement and belonging.
Tim Coy
Dorm Coordinator
Operating on a schedule conducive to dorm communication, organization, and contribution,Tim is the key leader within the scope of pastoral care, responsible for the overall culture of dorm life. The focus of the Dorm Coordinator is ensuring the dorms are a safe, stable and happy environment for the dorm community. The Dorm Coordinator liaises with key aspects of the school, aligning dorm life with school life and working towards a “one school” philosophy.
Rob Archer
Co-Curricular Coordinator
Operating before and after school and within school-day breaks, Rob is a leader within the scope of academic care, responsible for extra-curricular school offerings. The Co-curricular Coordinator facilitates, contributes to, promotes, and attends a range of activities, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating extra-curricular programming. The focus of the Co-curricular coordinator is to provide balanced opportunities for students to explore experiential learning, outdoor education, athletics, arts, and other enriching opportunities.
