Private schools, like St. John’s Academy Shawnigan Lake, don’t usually think they’ll become a viral sensation around the world. But that seems to be exactly what’s happened this past year after our very own music teacher used quick thinking and his trombone skills to chase off a bear that was wandering around the campus.

In addition to the local media outlets here on the Island like the Cowichan Valley Citizen and the Times Colonist, the story landed on Fox News, Outdoor Life and as far away as the BBC.

Just one more way learning music can help when you grow up.
