Welcome Back–our new and returned students!
This September looks quite different then previous years. However, one thing remains the same, students are eager to see their friends!
The faculty and staff at St. John’s Academy Shawnigan Lake have welcomed all new and returning students on September 8th. Our school, like other BC schools, are following the BC Ministry of Education’s Back to School Plan to make sure your child remains safe while learning on campus.
Our students are in designated learning groups, masks will be worn when interacting with other learning groups, and hand washing stations and sanitizers are throughout our campus.
This September we have approximately 60 new students and have opened a Grades 4/5 class.
We welcomed approximately 120 students on our first day of school.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had to cancel our annual Meet the Faculty Pancake Breakfast. Instead, we held a special assembly to go over the new Health and Safety protocols and invited our parents to watch via ZOOM the presentation made by our Head of School, Mr. Pontich.
Outdoor Activities
Outdoor education is one key feature of St. John’s Academy Shawnigan Lake. Our excellent location provides us with unique opportunities to explore the mountains that surround us and Shawnigan Lake in front of us. Outdoor Education will be essential to our mission of developing well-rounded students who demonstrate excellence in leadership and character
During the first week of school, students participated in a variety of outdoor activities. It was a great way to work together, learn leadership skills and create long lasting friendships.
In this rather extraordinary season, a lot of things have changed, but for SJA our vision remains the same; we are a caring community that is making the world a better place by providing life-changing experiences through innovative learning.
We are confident we will make this 2020-2021 a memorable school year because we are equipped with our core values: Caring, Courage, Integrity, Resilience, and Respect.
