St. John’s Academy Shawnigan Lake has a student-centred approach to education, and has recruited skilled faculty to teach a broad range of subject areas.

St. John’s Academy Shawnigan Lake is a growing IB school (Learn more) nestled against Shawnigan Lake on Canada’s Vancouver Island. It intentionally brings together both local and international boarding students so that all of our students have an enriching and academically rigorous experience.

As a school we have incorporated the latest educational research into the creation of a truly 21st century ready learning community, where innovation and creativity are paramount.

On this page you’ll find some hopefully helpful links to orient you to our academic program. And if you have any questions about what we teach or how we teach it I would love to hear from you.

Yours,

Bradley Myrholm, BEd, MPA

Director of Academics

OUR PROGRAM

St. John’s Academy Shawnigan Lake uses the International Baccalaureate model of teaching to lay an academic foundation for all our students so that regardless of their career ambitions they have the knowledge and the skill set to succeed in life.

LANGUAGE SUPPORT

Our school is an immersive learning community where Canadian and international students learn together. Often when students first arrive they need additional language support and we have the staff and resources in place to make that happen.

A Learning Community

School culture is important to us. More than simple developing scholars and students, we’re developing the next generation of leaders. We aspire to create a community that is accepting, compassionate and helps bring out the best in the students entrusted to our care.

Part of that culture is having milestone years to allow students to more deeply engage in their own personal research projects.
